What Does Neuropsychological Assessment Involve?
Understanding cognitive strengths and weaknesses
A neuropsychological assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of a person’s full range of cognitive skills. This includes measures of general intellectual functioning, processing speed, attention, visual perceptual abilities, memory and executive skills (planning, problem solving, reasoning and judgement). The person being assessed will undertake a clinical interview followed by a broad range of pen and paper cognitive tests. The tests will then be scored and interpreted by the neuropsychologist and a written report will be prepared. Finally, the participant will be invited back for a feedback session to discuss the findings of the assessment.
What is a Forensic Psychology Assessment?
Psychological & Neuropsychological Assessment in the Legal System
Forensic psychological assessment is a term that refers to a variety of psychological assessments undertaken in the legal context addressing distinct legal questions. A forensic psychological assessment may include an evaluation of an individual’s past and present psychological status and predictions about future psychological functioning and related needs. They may also assess a defendant’s ability to participate in the legal process or an opinion on their risk of reoffending.
